a little song – i’m back from afar.

oh and hello.
i just went to mexico for 10 days. it was a grande adventure. i’m still exceptionally excited about the march 12 brooklyn premiere of the 9 new sock puppet portraits (see below post for details), but i thought, by way of saying ‘hi’ to coming home i’d post a new little ‘peanut butter and jellery’ song. about my hoody.

Announcing the World Premiere of Series 2.5 Sock Puppet Portraits in Brooklyn, March 12

Greetings, friends, superhuman bears, illegitimate grocerymen,
I’m really excited to announce that the newest Sock Puppet Portraits, Series 2.5 are finished! They won’t be ready for online sales for a little while, but I’m thrilled to premiere them at my favorite local bar – Sputnik!

———-

This will be the first time I’ll have displayed my Sock Puppet Portraits since Series 1.5 premiered in Chicago in late 2007, and I’m so excited to show them at this amazing bar, club, and little art space that has become like a second-home to me (which isn’t a stretch, as I live doors down from it). Henchley Puppet Songs of Confusion and Glory

Greetings Dear Friends of the Sock Puppet Arts,
Much action is about, and in the midst of the fray, my dear friend from the Series 2 Sock Puppet Portraits,
Henchley Von Gussington, has completed his Myspace profile and uploaded some of his…groundbreaking…compositions.
please check him out at:

Henchley deeply wanted me to pass on a message himself –
“People and friends you are the feeling and the listening bell.
This is the SpiritHeartJourney in 3 of the movements. You feel it and the course moves from river to arrow. A blondness [ed. note: I really think he might mean "blindness" here, but I can never be sure] is another truth, the bear seeks the source factory and unites in the arms of the fly and the heart and the burger king. Please hear, listen. Listen for the bear, hear the burden, and unite.”

Joe.

This Sunday, Joe the potato-peeler guy passed away.

If you don’t know who I mean, I’ll forego the well-tread ground that the Times aptly covered:
NYT Obit

I sell art on the streets. Joe sold potato peelers.
He was the best street salesman I’ve ever seen, and I’d wager he was the best I’ll ever see.

I never walked up to the man and met him properly, I always just watched. In many ways it is my trade, too, and I suppose some sort of professional reverence kept me from just shaking the man’s hand. I don’t regret it – I like that I was simply one of the no-doubt hundreds-of-thousands that Joe impressed with his rap, content to admire him from afar, to watch his voice and words spin a web.
