Where else does Marty sell sock puppet portraits?
on the streets of nyc | in a few select stores | at rock shows
on the streets of nyc
When I can, I set up a small booth in Union Square, NYC, amongst all the other crazy art vendors as often as possible. As of May 2008, my schedule is generally similar to that of the Farmer's Market - I try my best to be there Wednesdays and Saturdays. I am strongly considering trying setting up on nice "off" days like Thursday. Begining at the end of June, I will be touring nationally with our sock puppet (and human)band, uncle monsterface. This means I won't be in NYC selling for those 6 weeks. But I will be wherever the tour is, selling a limited selection.
There are several benefits to finding me out in Union Square.
1. You get to meet me and chat with me and some of the real-life puppets - and I am so cute and charming!
2. In addition to not paying for shipping, I always sell portraits at 3 for $25 on the street, which is a wicked sweet deal.
3. You can actually pick out the one you want as opposed to gambling on the frame you'll get.
4. With the notable exception of online exclusives, I always have way more portraits available on the streets. Basically, I'm always 'trying out' lots of other portraits and such, before they do or don't become members of an 'official series'. When they become members of an 'official series,' they become available via this here web site and they get their own cool little myspace profiles. I'd imagine that, over time, as some portraits become 'rare' and go out of print, the best place to find them will be with me on the streets.
5. I also carry some other odd items like small drawings, larger portraits, oddly framed portraits, and occasionally actual sock puppets.
in some select stores
As of this moment the only non-Marty outlet currently carrying portraits is The Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center's Arts Bazaar in Cambridge, Mass. I have a long and great working history with this awesome organization, so they were the first to get stock from me. I'm in the process of talking with several buyers at small NYC shops, where I will sell portraits from Series One (if they'll have them), probably at slightly to much higher prices than you find either here or on the streets (though I might start running weird store-only deals at some point...). I will update as updates become available.
If you are a store rep who'd like to carry my portraits, or if you know of somewhere that'd be great, please contact me at:

at rock shows
The deal at Uncle Monsterface rock shows is very similar to the deal on the streets, with that same fine list of Very Excellent Reasons for finding me there, with the addition of :
6. You also get to watch an awesome fun rock show, too.
