Why Sock Puppets Are The Greatest Storytelling Medium Ever

I get this question a lot: “Why sock puppets?”

I often answer something to the effect of: “Well, I was sleepwalking behind a haunted house when I tripped and fell into an old washing machine. When I woke up, I was in a WHOLE OTHER WORLD. There, I met, befriended, and started a small business with a wild-eyed wizard who was also a well-dressed troll who was also a sock salesman. The rest is history!”

THE REAL ANSWER

Because sock puppets are nothing short of the WORLD’S GREATEST MEDIUM FOR STORYTELLING. No hyperbole about it. 

And why is that? I believe that it's the sock of it all. 

Socks are relatable. We all have had a sock on our foot, and if we're lucky, on both of them. Because of their accessibility, many of us have even made a sock puppet. Or two or ten thousand.

Like the socks on our feet, stories are understandable, too. In fact, I reckon that stories are how we make sense of an often rather insensible world.

Put together, a sock puppet with a story is a bridge to our hearts.
